EMPLOYEE TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
INTRODUCTION TO TRAINING
Training and development are
critical to the effectiveness of organizations as well as employees' work
experiences. Workplace productivity, health and safety, and personal growth are
all affected by training. All businesses that employ people must invest in
their employees' training and development. Most businesses are aware of this
need and devote time, money, and other resources to training and development.
Such an investment could include hiring specialized training and development
personnel and providing salary to employees who are undergoing training and
development. Investing in training and development necessitates the acquisition
of and maintenance of space and equipment. It also means that operational staff
working in the organization's core business functions, such as production,
maintenance, sales, marketing, and management support, must devote some time
and effort to assisting in the development and delivery of training. This means
they must devote less time to tasks that are clearly more productive in terms
of the company's core business. Investing in training and development, on the
other hand, is widely considered to be excellent management practice in order
to preserve adequate competence today and in the future.

Training is essential for the
growth and success of any firm. It benefits both the employers and the
employees of a company. If an employee is properly trained, he will become more
efficient and productive.
The benefits of training can be
summed up as:
1. Improves
morale of employees- Training helps the employee to get job security and
job satisfaction. The more satisfied the employee is and the greater is his
morale, the more he will contribute to organizational success and the lesser
will be employee absenteeism and turnover.
2. Less
supervision- A well trained employee will be well acquainted with the job
and will need less of supervision. Thus, there will be less wastage of time and
efforts.
3. Fewer
accidents- Errors are likely to occur if the employees lack knowledge and
skills required for doing a particular job. The more trained an employee is,
the less are the chances of committing accidents in job and the more proficient
the employee becomes.
4. Chances
of promotion- Employees acquire skills and efficiency during training. They
become more eligible for promotion. They become an asset for the organization.
5. Increased
productivity- Training improves efficiency and productivity of employees.
Well trained employees show both quantity and quality performance. There is
less wastage of time, money and resources if employees are properly trained.
IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPMENT
The importance of development
generally can be interpreted as the difference between equipping a person to
perform well at his current job and the future needs of that person while he
goes up in the future career ladder. This is very evident in organizations
where succession planning is integrated in to the normal Human Resource
Development plan.
The important components of
development would be:
·
The job Descriptions of the future
